Neighbourhood information
The village Minia village belongs to the municipal section of Argostoli, in the municipality of Kefalonia, is just 6 km from the capital of the island, to the southwest, and is very close to the airport. You will find it referred to the plural “Minies” with almost the same frequency of its official name.
The beach at Minia is the main reason why the village is full of people in summer. In Minia, you will still find numerous tourist accommodations, as it has evolved into a holiday center on the island: hotels and rooms to rent to suit all tastes and budgets are in abundance. Minies, according to the tradition, have been built in at least three different locations in the region. The pirate raids destroyed the village and its inhabitants rebuilt it to safer places. The village’s church is the Virgin of Maggana, was first built in 1666. The current building was constructed in the likeness of an older, which has been destroyed by the devastating earthquakes in Kefalonia, in August 1953.
